PERINEURAL THERAPY

Perineural therapy can help treat a wide range of conditions that cause chronic pain.

Perineural Therapy

Pain and discomfort are why many people seek medical attention. In an effort to alleviate the pain and discomfort of various conditions and injuries, Wellness Center for Healing has been successfully administering perineural therapy to patients suffering from chronic pain for decades. Consult Dr. Katrina Babcock or your Wellness Center for Healing medical professional to determine if Perineural Therapy is right for you.

What is Perineural Therapy?

Perineural therapy has its roots in prolotherapy, a technique that involves injecting a proliferative solution into damaged or injured tissues to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. In the 1990s, Dr. John Lyftogt, a general practitioner from New Zealand, began using a modified form of prolotherapy that involved injecting a simple sugar solution, or dextrose, into the area surrounding nerves to treat chronic pain.

Dr. Lyftogt called his technique “perineural injection therapy” or PIT, and he found that it was particularly effective for treating nerve-related pain, such as sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome. Since then, perineural therapy has become a popular natural and non-invasive treatment option for many painful conditions. This therapy involves injecting the solution around nerves and other tissues to help stimulate the body’s natural healing process by targeting the root cause of the pain providing long-term relief to patients.

Procedure and Recovery Time

Perineural therapy is a simple and non-invasive procedure that can be performed in an outpatient setting. Before the procedure, the patient is assessed to determine the precise location of the pain. Then, dextrose solution is injected into the area surrounding the affected nerve or tissue. The procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes, and patients can resume their normal activities immediately after. However, it is recommended that patients avoid strenuous activity for 24 to 48 hours after the procedure to allow the body to heal.

Most patients report immediate pain relief after perineural therapy, but some may require multiple sessions to achieve optimal results. The number of sessions required depends on the severity and duration of the pain and the patient’s individual response to the treatment. As a natural and non-invasive treatment option that can provide long-term relief to patients suffering from chronic pain. At Wellness Center for Healing, our integrative approach to healthcare allows us to tailor our treatment plans to meet each patient’s individual needs.
